The Fileshare System -There are three main pages that were setup for this system. In this help file, these pages will be referred to as 1) the home page, 2) the login page, and 3) the file area.
· The Home Page (http://btdatashare.btboces.org) *notice that use of ‘www’ is not allowed
This is the first page visited when ‘http://btdatashare.btboces.org’ is typed into your web browser. This page was added to the Fileshare system as an easier way to access the login page. It contains the link to the login page, other useful links to BOCES supported services, and other helpful information about these services.
This is the page that you have to type in your login ID and password in order to access the Fileshare system. This page may contain other helpful information specifically about the Fileshare system. You may bookmark this page is you wish to bypass the Home Page. (However, this may cause you to miss important information that we have posted on the Home Page.)
This is the page you will see after you log in. You begin in your root directory and can navigate the folders and files that you have access to from this page. (See following directions for functionality of this page.)
Fileshare Setup
Fileshare designates this as the ‘HOME’ folder. The user will see a list of folders that they have access to. The most common folders are named DATA_TO_BOCES, DATA_FROM_BOCES, and REPORTS.
Using Fileshare
¹ Write access permissions needed
² Uploading/Downloading will automatically notify appropriate contact by email
About File Permissions
The following information
is provided on any file or folder:
The following permissions are also displayed:
Owners and
admins can make changes to the permissions of a file or folder on the Info
screen. Click [Save Changes] when finished.
Every file or folder has "permissions" that determine the ability of
users to read, write, delete or modify the file.
These permissions are characterized by the following:
o Ownership - the owner of the file.
o Group - the group of the file.
o Mode - a set of six settings that determine the (1) read and (2) write rights of the owner of the file, the (3) read and (4) write rights of users that belong to the file's group, and the (5) read and (6) write rights of all other users.
The Mode
The six mode settings (see
above) are written as six characters divided into three sets of two character
pairs. Each pair is separated from the next with a dash (the separation dashes
are ignored).
Read access is represented with an r. Write access is
represented with a w. No-read or no-write access is represented with a
dash. For example:
rw-rw-rw
means the file owner, members of the file's group, and all others can read and
write to the file.
rw-rw--- means the file owner and members of the file's group can read
and write to the file, but all others can neither read nor write to it.
rw-rw-r- means everyone can read and write to the file but users other
than those in the file's group or the file's owner cannot write to the file.
rw------ means the file owner can read and write to the file but
everyone else cannot.
File permissions can be changed by users who have both read
and write access to a file, by selecting a file or folder and clicking
[Info].
The rights dictated by these file permissions can only be bypassed by the
admin, who can read and write to all files.
